Deployment & Leave Absence

At Arizona Online, we understand the distinctive complications you face as both a student and active member of the military. And we know that your commitment to your academic pursuits and military service are equally important to you. That’s why we make sure you have supportive options.
- Early Course Completion: Our flexible faculty is happy to work with you to find ways for you to finish a course before deployment or leave, thereby allowing you to earn credits early. If you cannot complete a course before your leave of absence, you can receive a grade of Incomplete and finish the coursework at a later date.
- Military Leave of Absence: If you are called to duty, you can be granted a Military Leave of Absence (MLOA) from the university for the period of active duty and up to one year after returning from active duty. No need to apply for readmission or pay for readmission fees. The MLOA application must be completed and submitted to the Registration and Transcripts Office prior to your departure and must be accompanied by a copy of the military orders, including the date on which you are required to report for active duty.
- Military Short-Term Leave of Absence: If you are unable to attend class or complete coursework for less than 30 days due to a military obligation, you can complete the class requirements within reasonable due dates that account for your absence. You must let your instructor know within 10 days of receipt of orders and complete a Military Short-Term Leave of Absence application.
- Military Leave of Absence for Graduate Students: If you are a graduate student deployed for active duty, you must request a Graduate Leave of Absence, which is a different form than the MLOA application.
