Are you looking for support while also building community with your fellow online Wildcats? MentorCats is an exciting new mentoring program for Arizona Online students who want to connect with fellow online learners! When you join MentorCats, you are matched with mentors who are there to offer guidance as you acclimate to life as a student in Arizona Online. Mentors will assist you in navigating the many adjustments that you might face when attending college as a fully online learner. You will be able to easily connect with your mentor virtually by text, phone, email, or virtual meeting platform.

The MentorCats Program

The MentorCats program enhances the student experience:

  • Gain one-on-one support with an alum or peer mentor.
  • Learn what to expect in school, how to approach challenges, and gain career advice.
  • Mentors listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities.

How it Works

  • As a student, you will be matched with an alum or peer mentor based on shared interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations.
  • Mentors and mentees register and complete an online survey about interests and experiences. Once matched, mentors and mentees are paired together for one academic year.
  • Mentee opportunities are open to all newly admitted first-year and transfer students, re-admitted students, and students who recently moved into Arizona Online campus from the Tucson campus.

Mentor opportunities are open to all students who have successfully completed at least one semester as an Arizona Online student. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to build your networks and develop skills to become a better professional and leader.

Who’s Eligible

All graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in Arizona Online are eligible to participate.

  • Mentees: Mentee opportunities are open to all newly admitted first-year and transfer students; readmitted students; and students who recently transferred to the Arizona Online campus from the main campus.
  • Mentors: Mentor opportunities are open to all students who have successfully completed at least one semester as an Arizona Online student.

How It Helps

Nearly 850 Arizona Online students, which account for 20% of the learner population, have matched with a mentor or mentee. Arizona Online’s commitment to student success through MentorCats, as well as through the program’s Student Engagement Specialists, together have contributed to a 22% increase in student retention.
